Frisco Library

Brief: To create a graphic on Frisco Library’s guardrails to speak about what a Library is to its community and the feelings associated with it. We won the bid by proposing the idea of Discovery.

Discovery can be seen through the multiple “genres” that are found in a library, as well as a community. In this case, we explored these “genres” through the categories of: nature, imagination, community, culture, and creativity.

Roles: Designer, Illustrator

Programs used: Illustrator, InDesign, Rhino

Design Lead/ Collaborators: Ian Campbell/ Lucy Eades, Frisco Community

Illustrations

The 5 categories each have 6 custom panels. The illustrations came out of a survey that was sent out to the Frisco, TX community via the library. We received over 1,200 responses giving us a more accurate depiction of Frisco itself, truly making this piece art by the people for the people.

Panel Layout Strategy

In between each illustration, we created a customized transition panel to make the piece feel more cohesive, making the work look like one big illustration as opposed to fragmented individual panels. This gave us a total of 59 unique pieces, transition panels and illustration panels combined.

Guardrails by the stairs have a slightly more complicated shape where original illustrations had to be altered to maintain the fluidity of the composition. The project is currently undergoing technical design and will be manufactured soon. Check back for more updates!
